Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 145 AM EST Thu Nov 14 2013 Valid 12Z Thu Nov 14 2013 - 12Z Sat Nov 16 2013 ...Snow for the Cascades and Northern Rockies... Upper-level energy and weak fronts will aid in producing scattered rain over parts of the Northern/Central Plains into the Great Lakes Thursday into Friday, with light snow near Lake Superior. Another area of upper-level energy and moisture flowing northward out of the Western Gulf of Mexico will aid in producing scattered rain over parts of the Southern Plains into the Lower Mississippi Valley Thursday into Friday. Additionally, easterly flow off the Atlantic along with flow off the Eastern Gulf of Mexico and weak upper-level troughing will aid in producing scattered rain over parts of Florida and into parts of the Southeast and Southern Mid-Atlantic Coast on Friday. An upper-level trough over the Pacific Northwest will dig southeastward to the Great Basin by Friday. The energy will induce a front to develop over the Great Basin and into the Central Rockies on Friday. Onshore flow and the upper-level energy will aid in producing rain and higher elevation snow over parts of the Pacific Northwest with snow eastward to the Northern Rockies on Thursday. By Friday evening, the rain and higher elevation snow will cover a much larger area over the Pacific Northwest. Similarly, moderate snow will develop over a larger area of the Northern Rockies by Friday evening, too. Late Thursday night into Friday, snow and lower elevation rain will develop over parts of the Great Basin into the Central/Southern Rockies.
