Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 400 AM EST Sun Nov 17 2013 Valid 12Z Sun Nov 17 2013 - 12Z Tue Nov 19 2013 ...Major severe weather threat for the Ohio Valley on Sunday... ...Strong and gusty winds expected across the Great Lakes and Northeast... Widespread showers and thunderstorms will continue to breakout ahead of a cold front pushing through Great Lakes...Ohio Valley...and Lower Mississippi Valley on Sunday. Strong low level southerly flow will surge plenty of Gulf moisture northward...fueling an organized axis of strong to severe storms. SPC is highlighting an expansive slight risk area covering much of the Ohio and Tennessee Valley...and even a high risk area centered over Indiana. Please refer to SPC for the latest information on this severe weather threat. The cold front will continue to ignite showers and thunderstorms as it crosses the Appalachians and heads towards the Eastern Seaboard Sunday night into Monday...but the widespread severe weather threat should diminish. In addition to the storms...the anchoring surface low is expected to rapidly intensify while lifting northeastward out of the Upper Mississippi Valley Sunday night...bringing strong and gusty winds to Great Lakes and Northeast. The cold front should push out into the Atlantic Monday night...and strong high pressure filling in behind the boundary should quickly clear things out across the Eastern U.S.. Persistent onshore flow will continue to fuel scattered coastal rains and mountain snows over the Pacific Northwest and Northern Rockies the next few days. Much of the activity will be light in nature...however...a Pacific system approaching the coast late in the period should bring steadier and heavier precipitation into the northwestern corner of the Country.
