Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 256 PM EST Fri Nov 22 2013 Valid 00Z Sat Nov 23 2013 - 00Z Mon Nov 25 2013 ...Heavy rain for the Southwest... ...Sleet for the Southern High Plains... ...Temperatures will be 10 to 30 degrees below average over the Southern Plains/Southern High Plains into parts of the Upper Midwest... A strong front extending from the Northern Appalachians to the Central Gulf Coast will move off the East Coast and the Gulf Coast by late Saturday. Rain will develop along the front from parts of Northern New England to the Southern Appalachians will move off the Northeast/Northern Mid-Atlantic Coast by Saturday morning. On Saturday, rain will move into the Southeast/Southern Mid-Atlantic with showers and thunderstorms over parts of Eastern Florida by Saturday evening. Moisture from the Western Gulf of Mexico will overrun the western portion the front producing showers and thunderstorms over the Western/Central Gulf Coast retreating to the coastline by Saturday morning. Farther inland, rain will develop over parts of interior Lower Mississippi Valley/Southern Plains, on Friday evening, that will expand along the Western Gulf Coast and into the Central Gulf Coast by Saturday morning. In the cold air behind the front, sleet will develop over the Southern High Plains through Sunday. A deep closed upper-level low over Southern California/Northwestern Mexico will inch its way into the Southwest by Sunday. A plume of moisture off the Pacific will extend into the Southwest through Saturday aiding in the development of moderate to heavy rain over portions of the Southwest through Saturday afternoon. Light snow will develop over parts of Sierras in Central California eastward to the Central Rockies through Saturday. The snow will expand into the Southern Rockies on Saturday and into the Texas panhandle by Sunday morning. Sleet will also develop over portions of the Southern High Plains Saturday evening and extend into Central Texas by Sunday morning. Rain will also develop over parts of Southern California Friday into Saturday, with rain developing over the Western Gulf Coast Saturday into Sunday. Elsewhere, a reinforcing front over the Great Lakes will move eastward to the Central Appalachians will dissipating by Saturday evening. The system will produce light snow over parts of the Upper Great Lakes through Saturday afternoon. Behind the system, lake effect snow will develop downwind from the Great Lakes and into parts of the Central Appalachians Saturday evening into Sunday.
