Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 312 AM EST Wed Nov 27 2013 Valid 12Z Wed Nov 27 2013 - 12Z Fri Nov 29 2013 ***Bad weather for Thanksgiving travelers on Wednesday over the Northeast*** ***More cold weather for the central and eastern parts of the country*** ***Relatively quiet weather pattern nationwide for the end of the week*** A rapidly strengthening surface low along the East Coast Wednesday morning is bringing a plethora of bad weather from Florida to New England, creating havoc for Thanksgiving travelers on Wednesday. Widespread moderate to heavy rainfall is expected over the Northeast U.S. through Wednesday evening before a strong cold front moves through the region. Strong southerly winds ahead of the front will briefly result in a warm-up near the coast before much colder weather arrives by Wednesday night. Farther inland, winter weather will be a factor to contend with over the Appalachian Mountains, and winter storm warnings and winter weather advisories have been issued to account for this from the Southern Appalachians to Upstate New York and northern New England. Several inches of snowfall is likely for many of these areas, with some places getting up to a foot of accumulation before the system completely departs the region. Areas that were receiving a wintry mix of rain/sleet/snow will likely change to snow before the precipitation ends. Another round of very cold weather can be expected through Friday after the skies clear out. Elsewhere across the continental U.S., a relatively quiet weather pattern can be expected through the end of the week with no major systems west of the Mississippi River. There will be a few weak impulses traversing the Northern Rockies and the Great Plains, but these will have only limited moisture and any precipitation will be light. D.
