Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 152 AM EST Thu Nov 28 2013 Valid 12Z Thu Nov 28 2013 - 12Z Sat Nov 30 2013 ***Improving weather for the East Coast to end the week*** ***Remaining cold for the eastern half of the country*** ***Relatively quiet weather pattern nationwide for the end of the week*** After a significant low pressure system brought widespread heavy rain and snow to much of the Eastern U.S., colder and drier weather is now moving into the region. The strong pressure gradient between the departing low and the incoming surface high is creating a steady northwesterly flow over the Great Lakes and the Appalachians. This is expected to result in lake effect snow showers and upslope snow over the central and northern Appalachians. The next couple of days will be well below average in the temperature department, with highs only in the 20s and 30s from the Ohio Valley to the Northeast, and the 40s for the Southeast U.S. A gradual moderating trend can be expected for the upcoming weekend. Elsewhere across the continental U.S., a relatively quiet weather pattern can be expected through the end of the week with no major systems west of the Mississippi River. There will be a few weak impulses traversing the Northern Rockies and the Great Plains, but these will have only limited moisture and any precipitation will be light. D.
