Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 352 PM EST Mon Dec 9 2013 Valid 00Z Tue Dec 10 2013 - 00Z Thu Dec 12 2013 ***Another winter storm affects the Mid-Atlantic on Tuesday*** ***Frigid weather continues over the Northern Plains and Rockies*** ***Warm weather continues for Florida*** After the departure of a snow and ice event over the Central Appalachians and Mid-Atlantic, another round of wintry weather is expected to arrive early Tuesday morning. This will likely produce accumulating snow from Virginia to the New England Coast before quickly exiting the region Tuesday night. Winter weather advisories are currently in effect over much of this area for snowfall amounts of 2 to 5 inches with isolated higher amounts. With the large-scale upper level trough over the Central U.S., the bitterly cold Arctic air that has kept much of the Plains and Inter-Mountain West in the deep freeze over the past week is expected to persist for a few more days. The coldest weather will be found from the higher elevations of the Great Basin eastward through the Dakotas and into Minnesota, with subzero lows and high in the single digits and teens through Wednesday, before a gradual moderating trend commences. Many record lows have already been set this past weekend, with some readings colder than 30 degrees below zero! Elsewhere across the U.S., the strong surface high from Canada will provide well below average temperatures across much of the nation through the middle of the week, including Texas and the Deep South. The exception will be the Florida Peninsula where daytime highs in the 70s and low 80s are forecast to continue. Hamrick Graphics available at www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/basicwx/basicwx_wbg.php
