Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 328 AM EST Tue Dec 17 2013 Valid 12Z Tue Dec 17 2013 - 12Z Thu Dec 19 2013 ...A developing coastal low will clip New England with accumulating snows... ...Light snow showers expected with a Pacific front dropping through the Northwest... Light snows will continue to spread across the Great Lakes...northern Mid-Atlantic states...and Northeast on Tuesday as vigorous energy slides through aloft. With the exception of some enhanced amounts downwind of the lakes as well as along the Central Appalachians...a lack of moisture across the region will keep accumulations to a minimum; However...as the energy aloft begins to pivot northeastward Tuesday evening...a surface low is expected to intensify off the New Jersey coast. The deepening low will hug the New England coast while racing towards the Canadian Maritimes Tuesday night into Wednesday...wrapping an influx of Atlantic moisture inland and bringing another round of moderate to heavy snows to the Northeast. By Wednesday afternoon...the system should have lifted well north of the region and the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast will see a break from the winter precipitation. After a few quiet days...a Pacific front dropping southeastward through the Northwest will bring unsettled weather back into the Western U.S. Tuesday and Wednesday. A lack of moisture supply should keep precipitation light and mostly focused along the terrain...but strong winds with an arctic boundary dipping down from Canada late Wednesday could force some more significant upslope snows over western Montana.
