Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 151 AM EST Wed Dec 25 2013 Valid 12Z Wed Dec 25 2013 - 12Z Fri Dec 27 2013 ***Snow showers for the Great Lakes and Northeast*** ***Cold Christmas Day for the Eastern U.S.*** ***Dry over most of the country through Saturday*** A shortwave aloft and a surface front is forecast to move over the Lower Great Lakes and the Ohio Valley by Thursday morning. This will help to produce snow shower activity over parts of the Great Lakes on Christmas Day, giving many people in that region a white Christmas. By Thursday evening, a surface low is forecast to develop offshore eastern New England and this will likely result in a more concentrated area of snow over Maine, and lighter snow farther west. Elsewhere across the continental U.S., persistent easterly flow from the Atlantic Ocean will trigger isolated showers over the coastal Carolinas and into eastern Florida. The same holds true for southern Texas and into eastern Mexico, where onshore flow from the western Gulf of Mexico will aid in the development of showers from Christmas afternoon and extending into Thursday. The remainder of the country is expected to remain dry with sunny to partly cloudy skies through the end of the week. Hamrick Graphics available at www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/basicwx/basicwx_wbg.php
