Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 226 AM EST Thu Dec 26 2013 Valid 12Z Thu Dec 26 2013 - 12Z Sat Dec 28 2013 ***Snow showers for the Great Lakes and New England*** ***Dry over most of the country through Saturday*** On Thursday evening, a surface low is forecast to develop offshore eastern New England and this will likely result in a concentrated area of snow over Maine, and lighter snow farther west. Lake effect snow showers are likely downwind of the Great Lakes through Thursday as cold westerly winds blow across the relatively warmer waters. Elsewhere across the continental U.S., persistent easterly flow from the Atlantic Ocean will trigger isolated showers over eastern Florida. The same holds true for southern Texas and into eastern Mexico, where onshore flow from the western Gulf of Mexico will aid in the development of showers through the end of the week. The remainder of the country is expected to remain dry with sunny to partly cloudy skies through Saturday. It will remain very cold over the northern tier states, and seasonably cool across the southern tier. Hamrick Graphics available at www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/basicwx/basicwx_wbg.php
