Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 452 PM EDT Sat Sep 13 2014 Valid 00Z Sun Sep 14 2014 - 00Z Tue Sep 16 2014 ***Fall-like weather across much of the nation*** ***Unsettled weather for the Gulf Coast and Florida*** ***Dry weather for the western U.S. through Monday*** A strong cold front has delivered a large surface high from Canada southward into the U.S., and it is feeling like fall across much of the country. Temperatures have modified over much of the central and northern Plains after recent winter-like temperatures. With the sprawling surface high covering most of the central and northern parts of the U.S., the majority of locations during this forecast period should enjoy cool and dry weather. Quiet weather is also expected for the West Coast through early next week with no major weather systems expected. The exception will be the Gulf Coast region where scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms are likely near a stationary front over the Gulf of Mexico and extending to the southeast coast. Locally heavy rainfall will be possible in areas where convective activity is persistent. A weak tropical wave near the Mexico coast will bring heavy rain to southern Texas through Saturday night. An upper-level low crossing the Northeast U.S. will also bring periods of showers through Sunday morning for New England. D. Hamrick Graphics available at www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/basicwx/basicwx_wbg.php
