Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 323 PM EST Sun Dec 07 2014 Valid 00Z Mon Dec 08 2014 - 00Z Wed Dec 10 2014 ...Heavy rain and snow expected with a coastal low deepening off the Eastern Seaboard... ...A series of Pacific systems will bring soaking rains to the Pacific Northwest... A wintry mix of snow..sleet...and freezing rain will be possible with a surface low dropping through the Upper Midwest and Great Lakes early this week. A limited moisture supply should keep precipitation totals light; However...the vigorous energy supporting this feature will amplify over the Eastern U.S. and help spin up a surface low off the Carolina coast on Tuesday. The low is expected to rapidly deepen while steadily tracking towards the southern New England coast. An abundance of Atlantic moisture wrapping into the developing storm will fuel a wide swath of precipitation across the Northeast and northern Mid-Atlantic states by Tuesday evening. Heavy rains and flash flooding will threaten locations closer to the coast...while significant snowfall will be possible farther inland. A series of Pacific systems should begin impacting the northwestern U.S. by early Monday. Surges of moisture with each system will produce periods of heavy rains across the Pacific Northwest...especially along the favored slopes of the terrain.
