Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 352 PM EDT Sun Jun 07 2015 Valid 00Z Mon Jun 08 2015 - 00Z Wed Jun 10 2015 ***Showers and storms from the Upper Midwest to Appalachians*** ***Hot weather returning to much of the nation*** A cold front sweeping across the Great Lakes will slow as it moves into the Northeast. Southwesterly flow will direct above normal moisture northward ahead of the cold front setting the stage for heavy rainfall from the Ohio Valley to Northeast. A hot and humid airmass in place ahead of the front could support the development of strong to severe thunderstorms this afternoon from the central plains to the Ohio Valley. Tomorrow the threat of severe weather will shift south and east across the Tennessee Valley, central Appalachians, and northern Mid-Atlantic. An upper level trough in place across the west will erode and give way to a strengthening ridge over the next few days. Under the influence of the trough, showers and thunderstorms should develop this afternoon across the central/southern Rockies and Great Basin. With the ridge already building into the Pacific Northwest, near record heat is possible today and tomorrow. Above normal temperatures will expand across much of the west and central U.S. with the continued strengthening of the upper level ridge.
