Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 344 PM EDT Tue Sep 08 2015 Valid 00Z Wed Sep 09 2015 - 00Z Fri Sep 11 2015 ...Flash flooding possible from portions of the southern plains to the middle Mississippi valley... ...Above average temperatures expected for the Mid-Atlantic, Northeast, and the West Coast... A relatively strong cold front will bring numerous showers and thunderstorms to areas from the southern plains to the Lower Great Lakes tonight into Wednesday morning. Abundant moisture and instability in place, as well as thunderstorms tracking over the same areas repeatedly, may result in heavy rain and possibly flash flooding through tonight from portions of the southern plains to the middle Mississippi valley. The cold front will move eastward, spreading showers and thunderstorms into the Ohio valley during the day on Wednesday, and into the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic states late Wednesday into Thursday. Showers and thunderstorms will also continue for portions of Texas into the lower Mississippi valley through Thursday and into Friday as the movement of the trailing end of the front slows. A secondary cold front will move into the northern plains tonight into Wednesday, and continuing into the Upper Great Lakes and central plains on Thursday. This front will bring additional chances for scattered showers and thunderstorms along and ahead of the front. Temperatures across the Mid-Atlantic and Northeastern states will remain well above average on Wednesday, with afternoon high temperatures 10 to 20 degrees above average. Temperatures will decrease some on Thursday as clouds and precipitation move into these areas. Temperatures will also be as much as 10 to 15 degrees above average along the West Coast through Thursday as high pressure at the mid and upper-levels of the atmosphere remains in place, which will also keep conditions dry.
