Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 400 PM EDT Fri Sep 25 2015 Valid 00Z Sat Sep 26 2015 - 00Z Mon Sep 28 2015 ...Heavy rain for parts of the Southern Mid-Atlantic... ...Temperatures will be 15 to 20 degrees above normal over parts of the central Great Basin, Northern/Central Rockies, and Northern High Plains... Moisture streaming inland off the Atlantic, combined with a westward drifting upper-level low, will keep much of the Mid-Atlantic/Southeast states wet over the next few days. Areal coverage will expand west reaching the Central/Southern Appalachians and the Southern Ohio and Tennessee Valleys by Saturday. Locally heavy rain is expected over portions of North Carolina and southern Virginia through Sunday morning. Flash flooding may be possible near higher terrain and coastal areas. Showers and thunderstorms will also develop over Florida and the Eastern Gulf Coast. Onshore flow off the Western Gulf of Mexico will aid in producing showers and thunderstorms over parts of the Western Gulf Coast through Sunday. Developing lows over the Gulf this weekend may increase the shower and thunderstorm activity. Rainfall amounts of 1 to 3 inches are forecast over the open central Gulf of Mexico. Coastal areas from southeast Louisiana to the Florida panhandle may have threats of flash flooding Sunday through Monday morning. Upper-level energy over the Central Plains will slowly drift southwestward to the Southern Plains by Saturday morning. Showers and thunderstorms over parts of the Central Plains will taper off by this Friday evening. A cold front will slowing track east through the Intermountain West and Northern Plains over the next couple of days. Showers and thunderstorms will be possible along and ahead of the front; however rainfall amounts are forecast to remain on the lighter side.
