Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 420 PM EDT Tue Oct 06 2015 Valid 00Z Wed Oct 07 2015 - 00Z Fri Oct 09 2015 ...Flash flooding possible Arizona, southern New Mexico, Texas Panhandle, and parts of northeastern Colorado... ...Severe thunderstorms possible across southern New Mexico and into the Texas Panhandle... As the historical heavy rain event over the southeastern U.S. has come to an end, the weather pattern will generally be on the quiet side for the next few days across the continental U.S. Nevertheless, an upper-level low moving across the Desert Southwest and the southern Rockies will keep the weather unsettled in the vicinity. In fact, more than 3 inches of rain could fall in western Texas into southeastern new Mexico during the next three days as moisture from the Pacific is lifted ahead of the upper-level low. Flash flooding will be possible from Arizona to southern New Mexico, into Texas Panhandle, as well as parts of northeastern Colorado. Thunderstorms could reach severe level across southern New Mexico and into the Texas Panhandle this evening. Over much of the eastern U.S., cool and dry conditions will overspread the area, providing fine weather for the cleanup efforts in the Southeast. Over the northern Plains, cool air from Canada will move into the area on Thursday behind a developing low pressure system. Rain is expected to develop ahead of the low and spread eastward across the northern Plains, upper Midwest and the Great Lakes on Wednesday and Thursday. A good chance of thunderstorms is expected in the Midwest on Thursday afternoon ahead of a cold front. Over the Pacific Northwest, rain will accompany a weakening Pacific front through Thursday morning with over an inch possible near the coast. Elsewhere in the West, generally quiet conditions should prevail through Thursday. Kong Graphics available at www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/basicwx/basicwx_wbg.php
