Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 352 AM EDT Sun Mar 20 2016 Valid 12Z Sun Mar 20 2016 - 12Z Tue Mar 22 2016 ...Heavy rain possible over parts of the Pacific Northwest and Northern California... ...Heavy snow along the Northeast Coast... The low pressure system that brought widespread rain with some snow to the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast regions will continue to track north and east offshore. Precipitation will taper off for these areas this evening; however, additional 1 to 4 inches of snow will be possible from New Jersey to southern Maine as the system parallels the coastline. Snow will end over parts of the Middle Mississippi Valley/Western Ohio Valley by this evening. Additionally, snow will begin to develop over parts of Southern New England by Sunday evening and move into Northern New England overnight Sunday into Monday morning. The snow will be limited to parts of the Central Appalachians and Northern Mid-Atlantic Coast by Monday morning, too. Much colder temperatures have settled in over parts of southern central U.S. in the wake of cold frontal passage. Much of Southern Plains, Middle Mississippi and Tennessee Valleys have Frost Advisories, Freeze Warnings and Freeze Watches in effort. Coastal rain and mountain snow is expected across the Pacific Northwest through Tuesday as a series of cold front pass through region. Rain will begin over parts of the Pacific Northwest Coast and Northern California today as moisture moves into the West Coast. Significant rainfall will focus along the Oregon and California coast, potentially yielding up to 7 inches over the next 3 days. The highest elevations of the Cascades, Sierras, Sawtooths and the Tetons could have snow accumulations up to 1 foot. Elsewhere, a front moving out of South-Central Canada will move into parts of Upper Midwest Sunday evening into Monday.
