Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 100 PM EDT Sun Mar 27 2016 Valid 00Z Mon Mar 28 2016 - 00Z Wed Mar 30 2016 ...Much cooler temperatures for the Intermountain West... ...Heavy rain possible in the Southeast US... ...Critical fire weather area for a small portion of NM Monday... Two frontal boundaries in the eastern third of the nation will continue to move northeastward over the next couple of days. The eastern system lies along the southeast coast from the Florida panhandle across the eastern Carolinas and into the Atlantic. This will be the focus for potentially heavy rain through Monday. A cold front that is currently pushing through the Mississippi River valley will usher in cooler temperatures to the Ohio valley on Monday as its main low pressure center heads toward the eastern Great Lakes and southern Canada. Any wintry precipitation at the onset in northern New England should change over to plain rain as milder air moves into the region Monday, but then change back to snow after the system moves east of the area and colder air rushes back in. Cooler temperatures will continue eastward on Tuesday, moving into the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic. In the west, a cold front will push inland through the northern and central Rockies over the next two days. Much cooler temperatures will filter southward and eastward through Nevada, Utah, and Arizona as the system deepens. Snow will increase in coverage as snow levels fall behind the front. Several inches are expected over a large portion of the intermountain west. In between, i.e., the central plains, temperatures will warm into the 60s and 70s over Nebraska, Kansas, and eastern Colorado which is about 10-15 degrees above normal. Dry conditions on Monday in AZ/NM may lead to fire weather concerns per the Storm Prediction Center, with central New Mexico at greatest risk.
