Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 1224 PM EDT Fri Jul 01 2016 Valid 00Z Sat Jul 02 2016 - 00Z Mon Jul 04 2016 ...Heavy rain, potential flash flooding and severe weather possible in the Central Plains to Mid Mississippi Valley into the Ohio Valley from Friday night into Monday morning... ...Cold front and thunderstorms on Friday across the East Coast will give way to drier and cooler conditions from the Midwest to the Northeast over the weekend... ...There will be a strong push of cooler air across the Northwest on Sunday into early Monday... A relatively strong frontal system will be associated with showers and thunderstorms in the Northeast and Middle Atlantic states on Friday evening into overnight. Some of the storms could be locally heavy and/or severe. This cold front will be followed by a strong push of cooler, drier air across the Midwest and Northeast over the pre July 4th weekend with very comfortable conditions for early July. However, a strong frontal boundary between the cooler airmass and more typical hot and humid conditions with a disturbance aloft will combine to produce an area of possible heavy rain, severe weather and even flash flood potential from Kansas and Nebraska into Missouri, Illinois and Indiana from the weekend into early Monday. Several inches of rain are most probable across Kansas, Missouri and Illinois which faces the highest potential for flash flooding. Another series of fronts is expected to cross the Northwest bringing showers to the Washington coast and relatively cool temperatures to the region. Moisture moving northward from Mexico and the Southwest will help fire diurnal showers and thunderstorms across the Southwest into the Intermountain west with locally heavy amounts possible especially across Colorado.
