Hazy, hot, and humid conditions are expected to continue across much of the southern tier of the nation and extending to the East Coast going into the weekend. Widespread 90s for highs are forecast and lows in the 70s, and some areas have heat advisories in effect. It will also be humid with dewpoints well into the 70s, especially near the coast. Some triple digit temperatures are possible across parts of Texas, as well as the lower elevations of the Desert Southwest. Scattered showers and thunderstorms can be expected from the western High Plains to the East Coast over the next couple of days. Severe thunderstorms will also be possible per the latest Storm Prediction Center outlooks across the northern Plains and parts of the Ohio Valley and the Deep South. Areas of heavy rain with the thunderstorm activity may lead to localized flash flooding. By the weekend, an upper-level low will advance eastward toward the Pacific Northwest coast and move inland across the northern Rockies by Sunday. This will bring a cold front through much of this region and result in temperatures that are well below normal for this time of year. Showers and high elevation snow are likely from the Cascades to the northern Rockies. Hamrick Graphics available at www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/basicwx/basicwx_wbg.php
