However, cooler air associated with an upper-level shortwave trough and a cold front is spreading across the Pacific Northwest into the northern and Rockies during the next couple of days. Showers and thunderstorms are expected to form ahead of the cold front across the northern Plains into the upper Midwest from Wendnesday evening into Thursday. The front is forecast to push further south across the central Rockies and into the central Plains on Thursday where showers and thunderstorms are expected to be scattered in nature. Fartehr south, monsoonal showers and thunderstorms will be the rule from the southern Rockies into the Desert Southwest. Afternoon heating over the complex terrain will promote showers and storms to peak during the late afternoon to early evening hours, and could lead to localized flooding issues. Meanwhile, below normal temperatures are expected along the Eastern Seaboard as a ridge of high pressure over New England continues to extend southwestward into the Mid-Atlantic region. Father to the south, showers and thunderstorms are expected to linger over the southeastern U.S., the Gulf Coast, and into Florida near a stalled frontal boundary during the next couple of days.
