Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 253 AM EST Thu Dec 01 2016 Valid 12Z Thu Dec 01 2016 - 12Z Sat Dec 03 2016 ...Rain expected to move off the East Coast this morning... ...A new storm is forecast to bring wintry precipitation over the southern Rockies, and rain across Texas on Friday... The low pressure system that brought widespread snow to the north-central portion of the U.S. is forecast to weaken as it cross over the Great Lakes. A low will develop by tonight where the front departed and will help generate additional snow for northern Maine today before tracking toward the Canadian Maritimes this evening/early Friday morning. Areas to the west, primarily near the Great Lakes regions, may have a mix of rain, snow and/or sleet/freezing rain through Friday. Much of the interior West will have snow today as a weakening/dying cold front tracks through. The southern Rockies/southern Plains will transition to a wetter and more active pattern this weekend as an upper-level low drops into the Desert Southwest. A surface low pressure will spin up an interact with the moisture streaming inland from the Gulf of Mexico. Rain is expected to expand northward across Texas by Friday afternoon/evening; with wintry precipitation likely farther north over northern and central New Mexico. Across the Pacific Northwest, rain will persist along the coastal areas of Washington and Oregon, as well as, snow in the Cascades will be reinforced by the arrival of the next storm from the Pacific on Friday.
