A cold front stretching across the Midwest, Middle Mississippi Valley, Central Plains, and into the Rockies will cause showers and thunderstorms along it through the period. The front is expected to move faster across the Great Lakes region and Ohio Valley and reach the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic by Tuesday evening, but the front will stall farther west, creating a focus for multiple rounds of rain and thunderstorms. Additionally, a dryline will persist across the Southern High Plains, helping storms form as well. With the possibility of repeated heavy rainfall, Slight Risks of excessive rainfall/flash flooding are in effect for today and Tuesday across parts of the Central/Southern Plains as well as the Middle Mississippi Valley. The Storm Prediction Center has a Slight Risk of severe weather outlooked for those areas today as well. On Tuesday, an Enhanced Risk of severe weather is in place for the Texas panhandle. Farther south, moisture is expected to flow into the western Gulf Coast over the next couple of days, creating the possibility of locally heavy rainfall. A Slight Risk of excessive rainfall/flash flooding is in place for southern Texas on Monday, and shifts into southeastern Texas and southwestern Louisiana on Tuesday. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are possible across the Florida peninsula as well as a front lingers, but flooding is not expected there. Across the West, a general pattern of upper-level troughing will persist over the next couple of days, with upper-level energy coming in periodically. A low and associated cold front is forecast to move across the Central Great Basin and Southwest on Monday and Tuesday, reaching the Southern Plains by Wednesday morning. Below average temperatures are expected behind this front in California today and into the Southwest on Tuesday, with highs about 10 to 15 degrees below normal. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected across the Great Basin and Rockies today, increasing in coverage on Tuesday. Snow could mix in particularly in the colder hours of nighttime and morning in these areas and into the Northern High Plains.
