These storms will have the potential to become severe, with severe thunderstorm watches currently posted from northern Virginia to eastern Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Heavy to excessive rainfall amounts are also a concern, especially from central Pennsylvania to New Jersey where the Weather Prediction Center is indicating a Moderate Risk for excessive rainfall on Thursday. Below-normal temperatures are forecast to persist across this region into the weekend. Well-above normal temperatures are expected to persist across the northern Plains and upper Midwest into Friday when a cold front dropping south out of Canada brings cooler temperature and increasing chance for showers and thunderstorms. The Storm Prediction Center is highlighting portions of Wisconsin and lower Michigan on Friday. Across the western U.S., a broad upper level circulation is expected to support showers and storms developing each day across the Great Basin into the northern and central Rockies into the weekend. Below-normal temperatures will persist from southern California into Arizona and the Great Basin. Above normal temperatures will continue farther to the north across the Pacific Northwest into the northern Rockies and High Plains.
