Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 320 PM EDT Mon Jul 1 2019 Valid 00Z Tue Jul 2 2019 - 00Z Thu Jul 4 2019 ...Heat building across the eastern U.S. and storms expected from the central plains to the Great Lakes... The weather pattern across the continental U.S. will be featured with a broad upper level ridge situated over the south-central U.S. and an upper level trough over the Pacific Northwest. At the surface, a meandering quasi-stationary frontal boundary will exist from the central Rockies to the Great Lakes region, and a stronger cold front arrives by Tuesday afternoon across the northern plains. Multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms are forecast from eastern Colorado to Michigan over the next couple of days on the northern periphery of the upper ridge and along and just north of the front. One to two inches of rainfall is expected within this corridor through Wednesday evening, and some instances of severe weather are likely as well. Elsewhere across the continental U.S., scattered showers and storms are expected to develop across parts of southern Texas, the Florida Peninsula, northern Rockies, and the Ohio Valley region. In terms of temperatures, the ongoing heat wave across the north-central U.S. is abating. After a brief return to near normal temperatures across the Mid-Atlantic and the Northeast Monday, readings will rise to above normal levels by mid-week with widespread upper 80s and 90s for the East Coast states along with increasing levels of humidity and diurnal showers and storms. Heat advisories may eventually be warranted by mid-week for some areas. D. Hamrick Graphics available at www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/basicwx/basicwx_ndfd.php
