A cold front dropping southward across the Northern tier will bring showers and thunderstorms to much of the Northern Plains on Sunday, moving into the Upper Midwest on Monday. Some storms could contain locally heavy rainfall and severe weather. The Storm Prediction Center highlights parts of these regions within a slight risk for severe thunderstorms Sunday and Monday. Deep tropical moisture will continue the threat for locally heavy rainfall across portions of Florida and the Southeast. WPC highlights parts of southeast Florida within a marginal risk for excessive rainfall where a handful of flash flood watches are currently in effect. Elsewhere, unsettled weather is expected through the short range period from the Mid-Atlantic to the Lower Mississippi Valley as stubborn upper level troughing remains parked overhead. Monsoonal moisture will continue to support daily chances for showers and storms across the Four Corners states, as well as into the southern/central Rockies and adjacent High Plains. Locally heavy to excessive rainfall is possible, especially along the favored terrain. Temperatures across much of the West will be near or above normal. Excessive heat warnings and heat advisories remain in effect across portions of the Southwest where daytime highs may reach or exceed 110 degrees.
