A storm over the Great Basin/Central Rockies will move northeastward to the Great Lakes/Ohio Valley by Sunday evening. The system will produce several weather hazards over a widespread area during the holiday weekend. Heavy snow will develop overnight Friday over parts of the Northern High Plains/Northern Plains that will expand into the Upper Mississippi Valley/Upper Great Lakes on Saturday. Snow over the Southern/Central Rockies and Great Basin/Southwest will slowly wind down overnight Friday into Saturday morning. Snow will also develop over parts of the Central Plains on Saturday. On Sunday, the heavy snow will end over parts of the Northern/Central Plains. Along the rain/snow line, areas of rain/freezing rain will develop over parts of the Central Plains into the Middle Mississippi Valley Friday evening that will move into parts of the Upper Mississippi Valley on Saturday. Pockets of rain/freezing rain will develop over parts of the Lower Peninsula of Michigan Saturday evening ending on Sunday morning. Showers and thunderstorms will also develop over parts of the Southern Plains/Lower Mississippi Valley on Friday evening and expand into parts of the Middle Mississippi/Tennessee Valleys on Saturday. The showers and thunderstorms will march eastward along the Central Gulf Coast into parts of the Southeast overnight Saturday into Sunday while being poised to move off the Southeast Coast on Sunday night. Likewise, rain, heavy at times, will move into the Ohio Valley overnight Friday and expand into the Central Appalachians on Saturday afternoon into evening.The rain will move into parts of the Mid-Atlantic overnight Saturday into Sunday. Furthermore as the storm moves eastward, rain/freezing rain will develop over parts of the Northern Mid-Atlantic into parts of Southern New England on Sunday. Snow will also develop over parts of the Northeast on Sunday moving into parts of Northern New England on Sunday evening. Meanwhile over the Eastern Pacific, an upper-level low will move close to the California Coast by Saturday evening and interact with energy over the Pacific Northwest making the upper-level low deeper by Sunday. A plume of moisture will move into parts of California on Saturday evening into Sunday evening. Rain and higher elevation snow associated with the storm over the Great Basin will wind down overnight Friday. By Sunday morning rain and higher elevation snow will develop over parts of Northern California on Saturday. Rain will expand into Southern California by Saturday evening. Overnight Saturday, rain and higher elevation snow will develop over parts of the Pacific Northwest and Central California. The snow will expand inland over the Pacific Northwest on Sunday with the snow moving into parts of the Northern Intermountain Region by Sunday evening.
