A low pressure system will dive south into northeastern Mexico today as it pulls moisture northward from the Gulf of Mexico into the Southern Plains. It's expected to rain over southern Texas today, where some scattered to isolated thunderstorms are also possible. Rain is likely to spread across the Gulf coast and into the Southeast/Mid-Atlantic over the next couple of days. Snow is expected to continue over northern Texas today before spreading across an area extending into the Central Appalachians by Tuesday. A swath of Winter Storm Advisories and Warnings are in effect across eastern New Mexico and northern/central Texas. Temperatures over Texas will drop significantly on the backside of this system today as high pressure begins to expand over the Southern Plains. High temperatures are expected to be around 30 degrees below average in parts of the Southern Plains today. The cool airmass will expand across the Lower Mississippi Valley on Monday as the low pressure system glides across the Gulf coast and eventually into the Atlantic by Tuesday. Upper-level ridging will generate milder conditions over the Northern/Central Plains over the next couple of days. A low pressure system will arrive in the Pacific Northwest on Monday, bringing with it the chance for heavy snowfall to the northern Cascades, and rainfall to lower elevations.
