Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 326 AM EDT Sat Jun 11 2022 Valid 12Z Sat Jun 11 2022 - 12Z Mon Jun 13 2022 ...Dangerous heat continues from California to the Southern Plains today... ...Heavy rainfall and flooding potential to continue through the weekend across the Pacific Northwest and Northern Rockies... ...Strong to severe storms possible from the northern Rockies to the lower Missouri Valley today... Excessive Heat Warnings and Heat Advisories remain in place across much of interior California, the Desert Southwest, and the southern Great Plains. Temperatures across these regions will remain well above-normal today, with daytime temperatures forecast to reach the triple digits, setting new daily records in many locations. For Northern California, relief is expected to arrive on Sunday as a pair of Pacific cold fronts bring much cooler temperatures into the region. This cooler airmass will continue to spread farther south and east through early next week, with well below-normal temperatures expected across the Pacific Northwest, Northern California, the Great Basin, and the northern Rockies on Monday. However, farther east the heat will remain, with above-normal temperatures forecast across the Plains and Midwest through early next week. Dry conditions, increasing winds, and the continuing heat ahead of the front will likely contribute to elevated to critical fire weather conditions across portions of the Great Basin and the Southwest on Sunday. Red Flag Warnings have been raised for much of southern Utah and southwestern Colorado, where conditions on Sunday are likely to promote extreme fire behavior. In addition to bringing cooler temperatures, the previously noted Pacific fronts are forecast to bring widespread precipitation across the Northwest and northern Rockies, including rounds of heavy rainfall through the weekend. These rains, in addition to melting snow are likely to produce rises along the region's rivers and streams. Flood Advisories and Flood Watches currently cover a large portion of Washington, Oregon, northern Idaho, and western Montana. A Winter Storm Watch is in effect for the West Glacier Region and the Northern Rocky Mountain Front in northwestern Montana, where several inches of heavy wet snow are possible for elevations above 5000 feet. Unsettled weather is expected east of the Rockies as well, with showers and thunderstorms developing from the northern Rockies into the middle and lower Missouri Valley later today into tonight. Some of these storms may become strong to severe, with damaging winds, large hail, and an isolated tornado possible. Isolated to scattered severe thunderstorms, producing damaging winds and large hail, are expected to occur across portions of the northern and central Plains on Sunday. Severe weather is also possible for parts of the Midwest, Ohio Valley, and the Mid-Atlantic. Pereira Graphics are available at https://www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/basicwx/basicwx_ndfd.php
