Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 435 PM EDT Fri Sep 23 2022 Valid 00Z Sat Sep 24 2022 - 00Z Mon Sep 26 2022 ...Eastern U.S. experiences first taste of Autumn this weekend while blustery northwest winds from the outer edge of Fiona brush up against eastern Maine on Saturday... ...Potentially record breaking temperatures possible for parts of the ArkLaTex region on Saturday... An amplifying ridge in the West will allow for sunny/clear skies and seasonable temperatures for the region this weekend. Meanwhile, a digging trough in the East will contribute to shower and thunderstorm activity, which will develop along a cold front, moving from the Upper Midwest to the Northeast and down through the Ohio/Tennessee Valleys and Appalachians. A stalled out cold front will be the focus for scattered to isolated showers and thunderstorms across central to southern portions of Florida this weekend. Tropical moisture begins to flow into the Florida peninsula Sunday night into Monday. High wind warnings and wind advisories are in effect for Maine due to Hurricane Fiona's arrival over Nova Scotia tonight. High winds are expected to continue through Saturday before weakening Sunday night when Fiona is forecast to lift farther into Atlantic Canada. Portions of the Southern Plains and Lower Mississippi Valley will continue experiencing a warm-up as ridging in the South retracts and builds into the West over the next couple of days. High temperatures in the mid to upper 90s may tie or break existing records for portions of the ArkLaTex region on Saturday. Lows in the 70s tonight will be 15-20 degrees above average for parts of the Southern Plains. Kebede Graphics are available at https://www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/basicwx/basicwx_ndfd.php
