Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 329 PM EST Thu Jan 23 2014 Valid 00Z Fri Jan 24 2014 - 00Z Sun Jan 26 2014 ...Rare Ice and Snow Expected Along the Upper Texas Coast... ...Continuing Reinforcements of Arctic Air into the North... The polar jet stream will continue to dip deeply in the United States during the next few days, triggering more lake effect snows and bitter cold across much of the central and eastern parts of the nation. A wave of low pressure along the cold front currently settling into the southern states is expected to spread a rare coating of ice across Southeast Texas and southwestern Louisiana--all the way to the upper Texas coast. Snow is expected farther inland just south of the Arklatex. The West will remain protected by a strong upper ridge of high pressure, with dry, mild conditions in all but the valleys of the Great Basin and northern intermountain region--where temperature inversions will keep it chilled.
