Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 245 AM EST Fri Jan 24 2014 Valid 12Z Fri Jan 24 2014 - 12Z Sun Jan 26 2014 ...Temperatures will be 15 to 25 degrees below average from the Northeast/Mid-Atlantic/Carolinas to the Central/Western Gulf Coast... ...In contrast temperatures will be 10 to 20 degrees above average from the Northern/Central Plains to the Northern High Plains... A front moving southeastward from Central Canada will move to the Northern/Central Appalachians by Saturday evening. The system will produce snow over the Great Lakes that will expand westward along the boundary to parts of the Northern Plains by Friday evening. The snow will move into parts of the Ohio Valley early Saturday morning advancing into parts of the Northeast by Saturday evening. In addition on Saturday, high pressure moves southeastward out of South-Central Canada to the Middle Mississippi Valley by Saturday evening. Likewise, a wave of low pressure will follow the high out of Central Canada into the Northern Plains also by Saturday evening. Circulation around the wave, will aid in producing light snow over parts of the Upper Midwest on Saturday. Elsewhere, the right rear entrance region of an upper-level jet will aid in producing snow, sleet, and rain over parts of Texas into the Central Gulf Coast through Saturday morning.
