Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 258 PM EST Fri Jan 24 2014 Valid 00Z Sat Jan 25 2014 - 00Z Mon Jan 27 2014 ...Reinforcing shots of arctic air continue to move across parts of the central to eastern U.S.... ...Continued warm and dry across the western U.S.... The polar jet stream will continue to dip well into the eastern U.S., sending reinforcing shots of arctic air from the northern plains-upper Midwest into the eastern U.S. While the precipitation accompanying these frontal passages is expected to be light, they will help to maintain below normal temperatures through much of the period from the northern plains-upper Midwest to the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic states. Light snow will spread across the upper Midwest and upper Great Lakes ahead of the next shot of colder air dropping out of central Canada this evening. The front is forecast to sweep across the Ohio valley and lower Great Lakes into the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic states on Sat, bringing light snows into those regions as well. By early Sunday a more potent shot of colder air is forecast to begin its descent from Canada into the north-central U.S. From the Rockies westward, the story remains much the same - high pressure, dry conditions with seasonal to above average temperatures will prevail across the region through the weekend.
