Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 318 PM EST Thu Feb 06 2014 Valid 00Z Fri Feb 07 2014 - 00Z Sun Feb 09 2014 ...Multi-day Snowfall Event for the Pacific Northwest... The contiguous United States will be dominated by two very different weather streams during the next few days. The first stream is a dry, cold one circulating down from Canada. The second stream is a very moist one blasting in from the Pacific Ocean. Cyclones are expected to form along the interface of these branches of the jet stream across the nation, bringing rain, ice, and snow to many areas. The hardest hit region should be the Pacific Northwest from Oregon across Idaho, where a stationary front will act as a track for the stormy impulses rolling off the sea to the west. Farther east, the Pacific systems will be directed across the South, then northeastward to the Carolina coasts. For now, it appears as though most of the moisture with the waves of low pressure crossing the East should remain confined to the lowlands of the Southeast. The northern edge of the moisture shield associated with these impulses could be in the form of light snow--a factor from the Ohio Valley to the Delmarva Peninsula Saturday.
