Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 300 AM EST Fri Feb 14 2014 Valid 12Z Fri Feb 14 2014 - 12Z Sun Feb 16 2014 ***Nor'easter exiting the East Coast by late Friday*** ***Another round of wintry weather on Saturday for the East Coast*** ***Rain and mountain snow continue for the Northwest U.S.*** The big nor'easter which recently delivered heavy snow and ice to much of the southern and eastern states will bring heavy snow and coastal rain to New England before exiting the region by Friday afternoon. As this storm system continues to deepen over the Canadian maritimes, strong gusty winds are likely over the Northeast U.S. on Friday. Improving weather is expected on Friday for the Mid-Atlantic region. Following behind this system will be another winter weather event from the Central Appalachians to New England. Rapid cyclogenesis is forecast to occur over the offshore waters of the Atlantic by this weekend. Given that this disturbance will be quick moving, along with the majority of the moisture and forcing remaining offshore, snowfall amounts should be considerably less than what was observed on Wednesday and Thursday. However, it should still result in light to locally moderate amounts over areas with deep snow-cover. Sustained moisture flow from the Pacific is expected to keep conditions unsettled across the Northwestern corner of the nation and extending eastward to the Northern Rockies. Widespread moderate to occasionally heavy precipitation is expected for the Pacific Northwest, Intermountain West, and Northern/Central Rockies through Saturday night. Most of the precipitation should be in the form of rain except for the higher elevations, where significant snowfall is likely for the Northern Cascades and Rockies.
