Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 327 AM EST Sun Feb 16 2014 Valid 12Z Sun Feb 16 2014 - 12Z Tue Feb 18 2014 ***Nor'easter moving away from New England on Sunday*** ***Another round of rain and snow for the Central and Eastern U.S.*** ***Remaining active over the Pacific Northwest*** The rapidly strengthening nor'easter that brought blizzard conditions to eastern New England on Saturday night will continue moving away and will affect eastern Canada on Sunday. A tight pressure gradient on the western side of this storm will cause gusty winds over New England on Sunday before more tranquil conditions arrive on Monday. Over the Southern Plains, a surface low is forecast to take shape and move towards the Great Lakes by Monday night. This is expected to bring mainly light to moderate snow from the Upper Midwest to the Great Lakes, and light rain with a few thunderstorms from the Deep South to Kentucky. There may be some light sleet and freezing rain from northern Missouri to southern Ohio. Warmer weather is expected in the wake of this storm system as upper level ridging is expected for the beginning of the work week. Out West, sustained moisture flow and frontal passages from the Pacific is expected to keep conditions unsettled across the Northwestern corner of the nation and extending eastward to the Northern Rockies. Widespread moderate to occasionally heavy precipitation is expected for the Pacific Northwest, Intermountain West, and Northern/Central Rockies through Monday night. Most of the precipitation should be in the form of rain except for the higher elevations, where significant snowfall is likely for the Northern Cascades and Rockies.
