Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 450 AM EDT Sun Mar 09 2014 Valid 12Z Sun Mar 09 2014 - 12Z Tue Mar 11 2014 ...Active weather will continue across the Northwest... ...Showers and thunderstorms expected along the western Gulf Coast... ...Light snows possible with weak impulses streaking through the Great Lakes and Northeast... Widespread shower activity is expected with a Pacific cold front steadily moving inland over the northwestern corner of the Country. A rich supply of Pacific moisture streaming onshore ahead of the boundary...combined with orographics...should produce moderate to heavy precipitation across Oregon and Northern California and northeastward into Idaho on Sunday. As the boundary sinks farther southeastward on Monday...increasing winds surrounding a deepening surface low should force a decent amount of upslope precipitation over the Northern Rockies and adjacent High Plains. Initially the majority of precipitation across the Northwest will be rain...but dropping temperatures and snow levels behind the cold should eventually lead to widespread snow accumulations across Idaho...southern Montana...and northwestern Wyoming. A slow moving piece of southern stream energy over Mexico and onshore flow off the western Gulf will help ignite and fuel showers and thunderstorms across South Texas on Sunday. The energy aloft should become a bit more progressive on Monday...moving the stormy activity eastward over the Texas and Louisiana coasts. Light snows will be possible with a pair of weak impulses streaking from the Great Lakes to the Northeast coast. A lack of moisture supply and the quick progression of these systems will limit snow accumulations. Gerhardt Graphics available at www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/basicwx/basicwx_wbg.php
