Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 454 PM EDT Fri Mar 28 2014 Valid 00Z Sat Mar 29 2014 - 00Z Mon Mar 31 2014 ***Stormy weather across the Deep South and the Southeast U.S.*** ***Rain from the Mid-Atlantic to the Northeast U.S.*** ***Heavy precipitation expected for the Pacific Northwest*** A developing storm system over the Upper Midwest will move towards the Great Lakes tonight and will produce showers and thunderstorms from the Ohio Valley to Texas. On the north side of the low, snow is expected to develop over northern Minnesota to northern Michigan and extending eastward into Ontario. Periods of rain are also expected over parts of the Middle Mississippi Valley that will affect the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast U.S. on Friday. Another wave of low pressure is forecast to develop over the Deep South on Friday evening, and this will result in another round of showers and storms over the region. Out West, a mid-level shortwave and slow moving frontal system over the eastern Pacific will slowly approach the West Coast by the end of the week. The storm system will produce heavy mountain snow over parts of the Northern and Central Rockies, and rain/snow showers for the Northern Intermountain Region. A few inches of rain is likely for the lower elevations of northern California and southern Oregon by this weekend as persistent flow from the Pacific is lifted by the local mountain ranges.
