Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 349 PM EDT Sat Mar 29 2014 Valid 00Z Sun Mar 30 2014 - 00Z Tue Apr 1 2014 ***Rainy weekend for the East Coast*** ***Unsettled weather pattern across the West*** ***Warmer temperatures for early next week*** A surface low lifting towards the northeast will bring a plethora of rainfall from the Southeast U.S. to New England through Sunday. A rich supply of Gulf moisture flowing northward will interact with the low and bring widespread moderate to occasionally heavy rainfall along the East Coast, and another area of rain is expected with the developing upper level low that is west of the main surface low. A wintry mix of snow, sleet, and freezing rain is likely for interior sections of New York state and New England with colder air in place. Out West, a Pacific cold tracking across the Rockies will bring scattered rain and snow showers to much of the Inter-Mountain West and the West Coast through early Monday, with another system approaching the coast by the end of the forecast period. There may be enough instability present for some isolated thunderstorms over these areas, including in locations that receive snow. An Arctic airmass will bring a colder airmass to the northern High Plains and Montana by Monday. In the temperature department, warmer conditions are forecast for the beginning of the work week across much of the Eastern U.S. as mostly sunny skies and southerly winds return ahead of the next storm system over the Central Plains.
