Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 408 PM EDT Sun Mar 30 2014 Valid 00Z Mon Mar 31 2014 - 00Z Wed Apr 2 2014 ***Rainy weekend for the East Coast*** ***Unsettled weather pattern across the West*** ***Warmer temperatures for early next week*** A surface low lifting towards the northeast, along with an upper level low, will bring some additional rainfall along the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast coast through Sunday night and into early Monday. A rich supply of Gulf moisture flowing northward will interact with the low and bring widespread rain along the coastal region, and a wintry mix of snow, sleet, and freezing rain is likely for interior sections of New York state and New England with colder air in place. Out West, a Pacific cold front tracking across the Rockies will bring scattered rain and snow showers to much of the Inter-Mountain West and the West Coast through early Monday, with another system approaching the coast by Tuesday. An Arctic air mass will bring a colder air mass to the northern High Plains and Montana by Monday. This will help to energize a developing storm system over the Central Plains and Upper Midwest for early in the week, with widespread snow from the Dakotas to northern Minnesota. Blizzard watches and warnings are already in effect over the region where both significant snow and strong winds are expected. To the south of this storm system, thunderstorms are likely to develop over the eastern Plains. In the temperature department, warmer conditions are forecast for the beginning of the work week across much of the Eastern U.S. as mostly sunny skies and southerly winds return ahead of the storm system over the Central Plains.
