Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 450 AM EDT Wed Apr 09 2014 Valid 12Z Wed Apr 09 2014 - 12Z Fri Apr 11 2014 ...Quiet weather expected across much of the Nation for the middle of the week... Conditions over the lower 48 will become rather quiet behind a cold front exiting the East Coast early Wednesday. The main focus during the short range period will be with an upstream cold front...which is expected to quickly push from the Northwest to the Upper Mississippi Valley on Wednesday and then progress through the Great Lakes and Ohio Valley on Thursday. A big warm up is expected for locations ahead of the boundary...and warm...dry...and windy conditions will heighten fire danger across a large portion of the Great Plains states. Temperatures should fall to near normal in the front's wake. In terms of precipitation with this system...showers will be possible with the passing front...including snow for some of the higher elevations of the Northern to Central Rockies. The quick progression of the front and a lack of moisture supply should keep precipitation totals on the lighter side on Wednesday...but some slightly heavier amounts and even thunderstorms will be possible as the front pushes into the Great Lakes and Ohio Valley on Thursday.
