Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 400 AM EDT Fri Apr 11 2014 Valid 12Z Fri Apr 11 2014 - 12Z Sun Apr 13 2014 ***Showers from the Ohio Valley to Northeast on Friday*** ***Warm weather continues east of the Rockies*** ***Storm system develops over the Southern Plains this weekend*** A weakening frontal boundary draped across the Ohio Valley and into the Northeast U.S. is providing just enough forcing for a narrow band of showers on Friday, with perhaps a few rumbles of thunder possible west of the Appalachian Mountains. Most of this activity should move off the coast in time for the weekend as high pressure begins building back into the region. The warm and pleasant spring-like temperatures are forecast to continue into the weekend for much of the central and eastern parts of the U.S. with the jet stream and main storm track remaining to the north near the Canadian border. Daily highs in the 70s and 80s will be commonplace east of the Rockies, along with sunny to partly cloudy skies. Across the northern tier of the country, a cold front dropping southward out of Canada will bring a fresh surge of colder weather from the northern Rockies to the Upper Midwest. Moisture from this front is likely to fall in the form of snow for the higher elevations of the Rockies, and rain for the valleys. By Saturday evening, a surface low is forecast to develop in the lee of the Rockies near the Texas Panhandle, and this is expected to become the next big weather maker by the end of the weekend across the central U.S. Hamrick Graphics available at www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/basicwx/basicwx_wbg.php
