Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 408 AM EDT Mon Apr 14 2014 Valid 12Z Mon Apr 14 2014 - 12Z Wed Apr 16 2014 ***Bad weather from the Deep South to the Ohio Valley*** ***Much colder weather arriving behind strong cold front*** ***More rain and mountain snow showers by Tuesday night*** A strong storm system over the Central U.S. will be the main weather maker across the country over the next few days. Strong southerly flow ahead of this feature will advect increasing amounts of moisture northward in advance of a strong cold front. This is likely to result in numerous showers and thunderstorms breaking out from Louisiana to the Great Lakes for Monday and Tuesday, and severe weather and heavy rainfall are a distinct possibility with any thunderstorm complexes that develop. Showers and storms are expected to reach the East Coast by late Monday night and Tuesday as the cold front moves eastward. Another warm and breezy day is expected on Monday for the East Coast and Deep South. A huge pattern change will be taking place across the eastern half of the U.S. as an impressive cold front sweeps across the region. A much colder Canadian air mass will follow immediately behind the front, bringing an abrupt drop in temperatures on Tuesday for the East Coast, perhaps on the order of 30 degrees colder. There may even be a band of snow behind the front over parts of the Ohio Valley and the central and northern Appalachians. Widespread late season frost and freeze conditions are likely from the Southern Plains to the Mid-Atlantic. Out West, a surface low and attendant front dropping out of Canada, combined with a weak Pacific front, will bring scattered rain and mountain snow showers back to the Pacific Northwest and Northern Rockies by Tuesday and Wednesday. A few rain showers are expected to develop over the Northern Plains as well Hamrick Graphics available at www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/basicwx/basicwx_wbg.php
