Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 446 AM EDT Fri May 02 2014 Valid 12Z Fri May 02 2014 - 12Z Sun May 04 2014 ...Stalled frontal boundary will trigger heavy rains and thunderstorms across Florida... ...Precipitation will make a return to the Pacific Northwest... While conditions will continue to clear out behind a cold front pushed well off the New England and Mid-Atlantic coasts...the tail end of the boundary is expected to stall out and linger over Florida the next few days. A rich supply of Gulf moisture should fuel an organized area of heavy rains and thunderstorms along the boundary while it remains stretched across northern Florida on Friday. The stalled boundary and area of heavy rains and storms are only expected to sink slightly southward on Saturday. A weak system dropping down from Canada will trigger widespread shower activity as it streaks across the Upper Midwest on Friday and pushes through the Great Lakes on Saturday. Although precipitation will be widespread...totals should stay on the light side. A deep upper vortex spinning in the northeast Pacific will inch towards the Northwest late this week and into the weekend. Precipitation and falling temperatures are expected with a series of cold fronts associated with this vortex. One front is expected to drop through the Pacific Northwest on Friday...and a second should begin moving inland late Saturday. Although temperatures and snow levels will be dropping...conditions should remain warm enough to keep any snow confined to the highest peaks of the northern Rockies and Washington Cascades.
