Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 435 AM EDT Sun May 04 2014 Valid 12Z Sun May 04 2014 - 12Z Tue May 06 2014 ...Unsettled weather expected for the Western U.S.... ...A frontal boundary stretched through the Nation's midsection will separate above normal warmth in the south central U.S. from relatively cool conditions across the northern tier... Widespread shower activity is expected beneath an upper trough amplifying over the Western U.S. the next few days. A modest amount of onshore flow and orographics should lead to some hefty precipitation totals over the Pacific Northwest on Sunday. The unsettled weather will spread south and east across central California and the Great Basin on Monday...and although some of the moisture supply will be cut off...moderate amounts of precipitation will still be possible along the favored slopes of the terrain. Also...falling temperatures and snow levels out West could lead to accumulating snows over the higher peaks of the Washington Cascades and northern Rockies. A surface low will trigger light to moderate rains while it crosses the Northeast on Sunday. The low should exit the New England coast by early Monday...but the trailing frontal boundary will remain stretched across the Nation's midsection...extending from the Mid-Atlantic to the Continental Divide. Weak pieces of energy rippling through aloft will bring a chance of light showers and relatively cool condition to locations north of boundary. South of the front...daytime temperatures should spike past normal across the south central U.S. Sunday and Monday. Gerhardt Graphics available at www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/basicwx/basicwx_wbg.php
