Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 343 PM EDT Thu May 08 2014 Valid 00Z Fri May 09 2014 - 00Z Sun May 11 2014 ...There is a slight risk of severe thunderstorms from parts of the Southern Plains northward to the Upper Mississippi Valley/Upper Great Lakes... ...There is an embedded area of moderate risk of severe thunderstorms over parts of the Middle Missouri Valley... ...Heavy rain possible over the Cascades... A storm over the Upper Mississippi Valley will move northward into Ontario on Friday afternoon. The system will produce showers and thunderstorms from parts of the Upper Mississippi Valley to parts of the Southern Plains/Lower Mississippi Valley that will move slowly eastward to the Central Appalachians to the Central Gulf Coast/Lower Mississippi Valley by Saturday morning. The storm will also produce light to moderate rain over parts of the Upper Mississippi Valley through Friday afternoon. Rain will also develop over parts of the Northeast Friday into Saturday. In addition, snow will develop over parts of the Central Rockies through Thursday evening. Meanwhile, a front will move onshore over the Pacific Northwest and advance inland to the Northern/Central Plains while the trailing boundary extends westward into the Great Basin/Southern California by Saturday. Onshore flow will be associated with the system aiding in the development of light to moderate rain over parts of the Pacific Northwest through Friday morning. Light rain will move into parts of the Northern Rockies on Friday. Snow levels will lower over the Northern Rockies on Friday afternoon. Snow will also expand into parts of the Central Rockies by Friday evening, while lower elevations will get light rain. As the system moves out of the Rockies, the storm will move into a region of low moisture producing an area of light rain over parts of the Northern Plains by Saturday morning.
