Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 345 PM EDT Fri May 09 2014 Valid 00Z Sat May 10 2014 - 00Z Mon May 12 2014 ...There is a slight risk of severe thunderstorms over parts of Eastern Texas and over parts of the Lower/Middle Mississippi Valley and Southwestern Ohio Valley... ...Late season heavy snow over parts of the Central Rockies... ...Heavy rain possible over parts of the Central Gulf Coast... Storm over the Upper Great Lakes will continue to move northward into Canada as the associated front becomes quasi-stationary across the Mid-Atlantic to the Middle Mississippi Valley by Sunday. Showers and thunderstorms will develop along and ahead of the boundary from Eastern Texas to the Ohio Valley and from the Central Gulf Coast to the Mid-Atlantic on Friday evening into Saturday. By Sunday morning, the showers and thunderstorms will retreat to the Central Gulf Coast and parts of the Western Ohio Valley. Rain will also develop over parts of the Northeast through Saturday evening. Meanwhile, another storm over the Northern/Central Rockies and the Great Basin will move to the Central Plains/Great Basin by Sunday. The system will produce areas of higher elevation snow and rain over parts of the Northern/Central Rockies into parts of the Great Basin on Friday evening. Void of moisture, the storm will produce a relatively small area of rain over parts of the Northern Plains on Saturday morning. On Saturday, the system will begin to tap into modest amounts of moisture from the Gulf of Mexico that will aid in developing rain extending from the Northern High Plains to the Upper Mississippi Valley on Saturday evening. The rain will become light to moderate as the area settles southward over the Central Plains/Middle Mississippi Valley by Sunday. Showers and thunderstorms will also develop over parts of the Middle Missouri Valley on Saturday evening moving to parts of the Middle Mississippi Valley/Western Ohio Valley by Sunday. Snow will develop over parts of the Great Basin/Northern Rockies that will move to the Central Rockies/Great Basin, becoming heavy in intensity on Sunday morning.
