Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 343 PM EDT Mon May 12 2014 Valid 00Z Tue May 13 2014 - 00Z Thu May 15 2014 ...There is a slight risk of severe thunderstorms from the Great Lakes to the Upper Mississippi Valley to the Southern Plains... ...Heavy rain possible from the Southern Plains to the Middle Mississippi Valley... ...Temperatures will be 15 to 25 degrees below average over parts of the Central/Southern Rockies and the Southern High Plains... A slow moving front extending from the Upper Great Lakes to the Southern Plains will inch its way to the Lower Great Lakes to the Central Gulf Coast by Wednesday morning. Showers and thunderstorms will develop along and ahead of the boundary from the Great Lakes to the Southern Plains through Monday night. Moisture from the Gulf of Mexico will overrun the front producing showers and thunderstorms from the Southern Plains to the Great Lakes from early Tuesday morning to Tuesday evening. The showers and thunderstorms will extend from the Lower Great Lakes to the Central and Western Gulf Coast by Wednesday morning. Another area of showers and thunderstorms will develop over parts of the Mid-Atlantic/Central Appalachians Tuesday afternoon into evening. Light to moderate rain will develop over parts of the Upper Mississippi Valley lifting northward into Canada by Tuesday. In addition, showers and thunderstorms will also move into parts of the Northeast Tuesday evening into Wednesday along with light rain. Elsewhere, upper-level energy over the Central Rockies will aid in producing snow over parts of the area through to Tuesday evening. Additionally, easterly flow off the Atlantic will aid in producing showers and thunderstorms over the Southern tip of Florida Tuesday and Wednesday morning. With high pressure moving over the Central Rockies by Tuesday, Santa Ana winds will impact parts of Southern California Tuesday into Wednesday.
