Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 311 AM EDT Sat May 17 2014 Valid 12Z Sat May 17 2014 - 12Z Mon May 19 2014 ...Cool high pressure builds into the Ohio valley... ...Cooler temperatures for the Pacific Northwest this weekend... ...Southwestern states remaining hot... The storm system responsible for the heavy rain over the past few days will slowly ease out to sea over the next two days. Wet weather will continue for Maine and parts of New Hampshire but will diminish late Sunday. To the west, scattered showers will dot the landscape over the Great Lakes and the Midwest with cooler than average temperatures. A stalled frontal boundary draped across the South will focus showers and scattered thunderstorms from AR eastward to upstate SC and western NC. That should wash out on Sunday as high pressure anchors itself over the OH valley. The Pacific Northwest and northern Rockies will see a system move slowly through the region this weekend which will bring in cooler temperatures and a persistent chance of showers and some thunderstorms. The leading surface front will push into western MT/WY by Sunday evening while the upper level system should lag behind it just offshore the WA/OR coast, supporting the onshore flow onto the coast. Farther to the south, temperatures in the desert regions of CA/AZ/NV will soar past 100F again today but will perhaps be a few degrees cooler on Sunday.
