Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 458 PM EDT Tue May 20 2014 Valid 00Z Wed May 21 2014 - 00Z Fri May 23 2014 ...Severe thunderstorms possible with system moving from the Midwest to northern Mid-Atlantic region... ...Much needed precipitation is in the forecast for some of the drought stricken regions of California...Nevada...Texas...and Oklahoma... Widespread precipitation is expected with a system tracking from the Midwest to the Northeast and northern Mid-Atlantic states the next few days. The most active weather will be ahead of the system's cold front pressing south and east through the Great Lakes and Ohio Valley Tuesday night into Wednesday...where developing storms could become organized and capable of producing severe weather as they tap into a warm and juicy airmass. Severe weather will also be possible with thunderstorms developing along the tail end of the boundary which should remained stretched across the central Rockies and adjacent High Plains. Cool and unsettled weather will continue beneath a closed upper low moving across the Central Great Basin and settling in over the Southwestern U.S.. This system will not have a tremendous amount of moisture to work with...but beneficial rains are still expected for portions of California and Nevada. Also...as the close low gradually edges eastward and moisture makes a return from the Western Gulf of Mexico...some much needed precipitation will be possible of drought stricken regions of Texas and Oklahoma.
