Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 455 PM EDT Tue May 27 2014 Valid 00Z Wed May 28 2014 - 00Z Fri May 30 2014 ***Slow moving storm system over the south-central U.S.*** ***Cooler air arriving for the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic*** ***Cold front out West will bring showers and cooler weather*** A moisture-rich disturbance over Texas and Louisiana is resulting in the development of numerous showers and thunderstorms from central Texas to the lower Mississippi River Valley. Over the next couple of days, deep southerly flow from the Gulf of Mexico will interact with a mid-upper level low that will slowly weaken by the end of the week. Heavy rainfall will be the main threat with this system. For the East Coast, the heat and humidity will continue to generate scattered showers and thunderstorms through the middle of the week, with some of these storms becoming strong to severe at times. A cold front currently over the Great Lakes is forecast to progress southward and reach the Southeast U.S. by Thursday afternoon. This will bring a welcomed and refreshing change from the recent hot weather for the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic. A Pacific front moving inland from the Pacific Northwest will also bring cooler weather to much of the West Coast and Inter-Mountain West this week. Scattered showers and a few thunderstorms are likely to develop in the vicinity of the northern portion of the front, and also near the upper low that is forecast to move over Washington state and into British Columbia.
